OBJECTIVES
Under its slogan 'Quality trees for quality fruit', the ISCN has three main objectives:

To maintain close contact with and provide adequate support to nurserymen and citrus scientists worldwide in order to supply high quality nursery trees. As new technology develops there is an increasing need to put it to practical use along the path of Citrus nursery improvement.

To reinforce the safeguards for the production of true to type elite citrus trees and promote preventive actions in foundation blocks and nurseries against virus and virus-like graft and insect transmissible diseases, as well as pathogenic bacteria and fungi, soil pathogens and nematodes.

To advise nurserymen on new cultivar options and to promote the interaction of groups working on the evaluation of citrus germplasm.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND INTENTIONS
To date ISCN has organized six international congresses in Spain, USA, Australia, South Africa, France and Brazil under the rotating chairmanship of highly dedicated professionals viz. late J. Gil (Spain), IT Brokaw (USA), I. Tolley (Australia), P. Niven (RSA), B. Aubert (France), L.C. Donadio (Brazil). Countries hosting the future Congress are elect by a poll at the General Assembly of ISCN during the Current Congress. Proceedings have been published for each congress, containing a considerable amount of scientific and technical information. These documents provide first hand knowledge to nurserymen willing to improve their operations for the ultimate benefit of citrus growers. Furthermore, two Citrus Nursery Manuals were published respectively by A. Lee and B. Aubert. ISCN Congresses are held every four years with the next (2005) to be arranged in Egypt by ISCN President-Elect I. Shetta assisted by Dr. S.E. Salem.

After having organized the Congress, the President-elect becomes ISCN active President for four years. He is assisted in his task by the immediate Past-President. The Board of ISCN comprises the President-elect, the active President with the Secretary, the immediate Past?President, the Membership/Treasurer and the Website Coordinator/News letter Editor. The general policy of ISCN is decided at the Executive Committee gathering the officers of the Board and the Country Representatives. There are three to four issues of a newsletter each year that maintains contacts among ISCN members. The newsletter is proposed in three languages: English, Spanish and French, and is available on the ISCN website. The Society has over 300 members from 31 countries and keeps an updated register of addresses and phone/fax/email of its members. It is intended to link active citrus growing areas of America and Europe, with other producing countries of Africa and Asia.
